When should you go to the Perinatal Center
The primary reason to go to the Perinatal Center
The first reason to go to the Perinatal Center is the initiation of childbirth.
Most often it all starts with contractions.
Prior to real labour, a woman can experience training (preparatory) contractions. They are not regular, with liquid (less than 10-15 min) but painful (at the bottom of the abdomen). They may appear a few days or even a week before the childbirth. The right decision at this stage is to contact your doctor for consultations and decision-making, either to go to the hospital and be under the supervision or to stay at home.
The following characteristic features by true labor contractions are distinguished
True labor contractions are distinguished by the following characteristic features:
- appearance in equal time intervals;
- intervals between contractions are 10 minutes or less, gradually decreasing;
- duration of the contractions reaches 30-60 seconds and eventually becomes bigger;
- real labor contractions are quite uncomfortable, often painful;
- tendency to progress and do not depend on the change of body position or activity.
If you see such symptoms within the hour, it is time to go to the Perinatal Center.
Also, the frequent reason for going to the Perinatal Center is the moving of amniotic fluid away. If you feel that the underwear is unusually wet, the fluid flows down your legs, it is a sign that your amniotic fluid moves away. It does not matter whether it is 30-50 ml or 1.5 liters, it is still an absolute reason to go to the Perinatal Center.
Situations in which you need to go to the perinatal center without hesitation
Rarely, there may be situations when you need to go to the hospital without hesitation, namely:
- bloody discharge of more than 10 ml comes from the genital tract;
- uterus does not relax between contractions, and the pain is too strong;
- elevation of blood pressure, headache, vision changes (blurred vision, flicker before eyes);
- if the childbirth starts earlier than the 37th week or this is the multiple pregnancy;
- changes in the child’s movements: they have become too weak, disappeared, or vice versa they are atypically strong that it makes parents worry.
Discharge of the mucus plug is a harbinger of childbirth and does not require immediate departure to the hospital.
Pain relief during childbirth
For anesthesia of childbirth in our city, in the Perinatal center of Kiev, epidural analgesia (EDA) is widely introduced. It should be noted that the anesthesiologists of our clinic were pioneers in carrying out painless deliveries in Ukraine and have a unique experience.
During EDA, we use the latest kits and anesthetics of famous European companies.
Childbirth in the Perinatal Center
Childbirth is a hard, focused and extremely important task for women. Our goal is to make sure that nothing distracts the mother during this process, she feels completely safe, trusts the environment so the child will be born in a healthy atmosphere, and this moment is memorable for the family.
Obstetric and neonatal care is provided round the clock at the highest level. All actions are coordinated and consistent with international standards. The Perinatal Center takes pride for its experience in obstetric care.
All delivery rooms are individually and comfortably equipped. As soon as doctors confirm the beginning of childbirth, the woman and her partner are sent to the delivery room, where they are kept for the period of delivery and another two hours after. The delivery room is designed in such a way that nothing disturbs the woman and her partner.
We encourage and support the partnered childbirth. More than 80% of childbirths are carried out with the partner support. Often, your husband is the partner, but it can be the sister, close friend, mother or any other family member.
Your partner must provide fluorography.
After childbirth, the mother and the child are being transported to the Maternal and Child Health Department. And we also care that the family has everything necessary for a comfortable and safe stay. After all, a successful start is the key to a healthy maternity in the future. The mother and her child are always together in the individual ward. Doctors, midwives and nurses supervise the mother and the newborn around the clock, providing consultations, recommendations and pieces of advice on how to care for herself and the child.
When are discharged home
After the physiological childbirth, the mother and the child stay for 2 days. After the Cesarean section, they stay for 4 days. If there are certain medical indications, patients can stay until they have confidence in a stable condition of the mother or the child.
